From Antonia Bell-Delgado, Intern Minister
My Intern Commissioning Ceremony was a beautiful expression of trust and commitment. I was awestruck by how meaningful a declaration of who we are to each other could provide a deeper sense of belonging. I was awestruck. Our declaration of presence and commitment to one another provided a deep sense of belonging. As humans, we are always searching for that belonging and when we find belonging, it feels awesome! Thank you for giving me an awesome experience and for welcoming me to the Ministry team with exuberant enthusiasm.
As we ponder awe this month, I am taken by how often ordinary things can be awe-inspiring. The human body is extraordinary and often is used in ways that seem ordinary. While the human body is often used in ways that seem ordinary, it is utterly extraordinary.
Have you considered the invisible, incredible things that happen when you do something as ordinary as washing your hands? Think about how simple soap, water, and rubbing protects our bodies from all of the microscopic yuck that comes in contact with our hands. Now that I have you thinking about that, consider how vital human touch can be for a majority of humans. Right? Not only do our hands have the power to bring healing, but they also have the potential to be a vector of disease. Awesome and awful!
How many other examples can you think of that can be both awesome and awful? As you ponder those things, I will leave you with a link to proper handwashing procedures. If you are like me, you want to spread the awesome and forgo the awful. Remember, there is awe in the ordinary. As Albert Einstein stated, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle”.
